Introducing Three New Photographs for September

I’ve also brought back several of my older aster photos for a limited time – they are all brightly colored round flowers presented as square photographs. They’ve sort of become known as my round on square photos. Several people have created fun groupings of these photos by choosing their favorite summer flowers.

These returning favorites will be available until Octobe4 31. After that – they probably won’t be available again until next summer.

In the Studio: Yellow and White Siberian Irises

Not long ago I shared photos of some lavender siberian irises that I photographed in my studio. At about the same time, I photographed some yellow & white siberian irises. I thought I’d share those photos with you today.

In the Studio: Lavender Siberian Irises

Earlier this year I photographed a wonderful set of lavender and yellow siberian irises in my studio. Things have been so crazy busy this year – that I only just had a chance to look at the files and edit some up. I thought I’d share them with you today.

New Photo: Siberian Irises

I’ve recently added a new photo – Siberian Irises – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.

I love Siberian Irises. Usually when I photograph them I’m trying to capture the beauty of a single flower. Last time I photographed some Siberian Irises in my studio – I tried something different. i gathered a bunch of blossoms and held them close together – with petals, stamens and sepals all overlapping. And then I started shooting various composition hoping to show just how wonderful these flowers are when they are in a bunch. I loved seeing the various shades of purple, the different textures in the petals and the occasional splash of yellow.

In the Studio: Siberian Irises

This is a set of photos I took in my studio of some Siberian Irises back in January. It was the first time I’d tried photographing the flowers against a black background – which meant it took a while to get the lighting adjusted so the photos looked the way I wanted them to. But once we got the lights set – I suddenly understood why so many studio photographers photograph their flowers against a black background. WOW do the brightly colored flowers really pop against the black!

In addition to all the photos of the Siberian Irises that I’m really happy with – there was one big OOPS of a photo in the batch. At one point I was focusing in on the side of a group of flowers and didn’t pay attention to the background. As you can tell from the photo – I totally missed the framing on this photo – that’s the side of the roll of black paper and the paper stand in the background of the photo. I did open out the shadows on the photo to show you how badly I messed this one up. Lesson learned – pay attention to the background as well as the subject of the photo 🙂

I also photographed the same irises against a white background – once I get those photos edited up I’ll share them here on my blog 🙂
