Not long ago as I was heading into Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsyvlania, I spotted an angel statue in a cemetery not far from the entrance to the gardens. So, of course, I had to stop on my way home after photographing at the garden! There was just one angel statue in the cemetery, and you can imagine my surprise when I realized it was on a fairly recent grave less than 10 years old. Most of the other angel statues I’ve photographed have been 100 or more years old. So I’m not sure why someone decided to have a statue in the style of the older angels placed there, but it was nice to see one that hadn’t been damaged by weather and the passage of time.
Here are a few of my photos of the Angel Statue at Longwood Cemetery in Kennett Square. I particularly liked the details in the angel’s wings so took several photos of them.

The third cemetery I photographed at on my recent trip to Savannah was Bonaventure Cemetery. Bonaventure is one of my favorite cemeteries to photograph at, and is probably the one where I fell in love with photographing cemeteries. It was the first place I’d had a chance to photograph the spectacular angel and other statutes seen in cemeteries starting in the 1800s. I try to visit Bonaventure Cemetery every time I make it to Savannah.

I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Savannah – I can’t wait to get back to some of the amazing cemeteries and do some more photography!

On my recent trip to Savannah, one of the cemeteries I photographed was Greenwich Cemetery. Established in 1933, Greenwich Cemetery is technically known as the Greenwich addition to Bonaventure Cemetery on the grounds of the old Greenwich Plantation.

On my recent trip to Savannah I spent some time photographing at Laurel Grove Cemetery North. Founded in 1852, this was cemetery for white residents of Savannah, including many Confederate soldiers and veterans. Nearby was Laurel Grove Cemetery South which was the cemetery for slaves and free blacks. I didn’t have a chance to visit Laurel Grove Cemetery South on this trip, I hope to visit on my next trip to Savannah.

When I visited the New York earlier this year, one of the places I stopped to photograph at was the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands. Founded in 1844 as part of the rural cemetery movement, Albany Rural Cemetery is known for being a beautiful peaceful cemetery. Chester A. Arthur, the twenty-first president of the United States, is among the people buried there.
The wonderful part of the cemetery to me was having a chance to see and photograph some of the amazing sculptures and statues on the graves. There is beautiful ironwork on some of the mausoleaums.
The temperature was in the 90s the day I visited, so I wasn’t able to fully explore Albany Rural Cemetery. I’m hoping to visit it again on my next trip to the area. In the meantime, here are some of the photos I took at the Albany Rural Cemetery.
