Over the weekend, I spent some time at Longwood Gardens photographing some of the dahlias in the 2019 Greater Philadelphia Dahlia Society Show. As always, the flowers were amazing. Unfortunately conditions weren’t great at the show for photography this year – so I only have a few photos rather than usual several blog posts full of dahlia photos. This Woodland Wildthings Dahlia is one of most eye-catching dahlias I’ve ever seen. The combination of red, orange and yellow made it stand out in a room full of dahlias. And as I explored photographing this incredible flower, I noticed one of the petals had a twist in it – that just gave the whole flower even more personality that a similar dahlia nearby.

Late summer/early fall at the local gardens means it’s dahlia time. Every year, I’m amazed at the spectacular dahlias I see on display. This Hollyhill Pinkie Dahlia caught my eye and I couldn’t stop photographing it. I loved the shape of the petals. The fact that they are white with a border of bold pink just made them that much more special.

One of my favorite flowers I’ve photographed recently are a set of Koppertone Dahlias at Longwood Gardens. They were planted along both sides of the Flower Garden Walk – and WOW were they amazing. I loved all the shades of color in these incredible dahlias.
