As some of you already know, I haven’t been able to go out much photographing lately due to a knee injury. So Bill and I have been setting up our studio lights and I’ve been photographing some flowers under the lights. It’s a totally different way of photographing flowers for me – but I’m having fun, learning a lot – and getting to photograph some flowers.

I thought I’d do a series of blog posts talking about what I’m learning – and sharing some of the photos from the studio.

The first setup for the flowers with the studio lights was just using one light and photographing a light pink gerbera daisy in my family room. I discovered I loved being able to capture the details of the center of the daisy – but really don’t like having the coffee table as the background . . .

So the next day we moved our light setup into the dining room – which has a much higher table (it’s much easier to photograph flowers when you can stand up rather than keep having to bend over . . . ) The other big change was to add a roll of white paper behind the flowers as a backdrop which totally changed the look of the photos – and helped me see the possibilities for photographing flowers in the studio.

As you can see – I had lots of fun with several bright pink gerbera daisies

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some of my first attempts at photographing flowers in the studio. I’ll be doing more posts about photographing in the studio in the coming weeks.
