I’ve recently added a new photograph – April Showers – to my website at https://beautifulflowerpictures.com/store/april-showers/
While photographing at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia in April, I spotted this wonderful sculpture of two young children under an umbrella. And then I spotted all the wonderful pink dogwood blossoms behind them. So instead of avoiding a rain shower, I imagined the children were deciding to close their umbrella and head out into a shower of falling dogwood blossoms.
This photograph is available matted to 14 X 11 and 20 X 16

The third garden I visited on my trip to the Atlanta area was Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain. I’ve heard for years about the azaleas at Callaway Gardens – and from what I saw – it must be spectacular when the azaleas bloom. I ending up visiting just after the early azaleas bloomed and just before the later ones bloomed. So not peak, but still very beautiful.
Here are some of my photos from my visit to Callaway Gardens.

As I walked through the woods I found beautiful scenes and lots of wildflowers to photograph.

I would love to visit Callaway Gardens again. My guess is that it’s a wonderful place to explore and photograph throughout the year.

While I was in Georgia earlier this year, I spent a wonderful day exploring Gibbs Gardens in Ball Ground, Georgia. As botanical gardens go, Gibbs Gardens is a fairly new garden. Established by Jim Gibbs, an Atlanta Landscape Developer, the garden was developed starting the 1980s. It currently covers over 200 acres and includes three feature gardens – the Manor House Gardens, the Japanese Gardens and the Waterlily Gardens. Gibbs Gardens is known for the hillsides of daffodils that bloom each spring. The day I visited was just as the daffodils were finishing their bloom – I would love to get back some year and catch them in full bloom.
Here are some of my photos from my visit to Gibbs Gardens.

Earlier this year, I spent a morning photographing at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1850, the cemetery is home to many famous Atlantans. It is another cemetery established as part of the rural or garden cemetery movement in the mid-1800s. So like other cemeteries of its era, Oakland is full of wonderful flowers, trees, and statuary on the graves.

A couple weeks ago I shared a few of my favorite photos from my visit to the Prison Farm in Atlanta, Georgia in my newsletter and here on my blog. I thought I’d share the whole set of my photos from that shoot here with you today.
I visited the Atlanta Prison Farm as part of Art Wolfe’s Abstract Atlanta workshop. We spent an afternoon photographing a graffiti covered partially burned abandoned prison. It’s the first time I’ve ever been on a photo shoot that required a police escort to visit the site, and where I could here the local S.W.A.T. team practicing in the distance. I never knew I could spend an afternoon fascinated by patterns, textures, lines and colors that I found in overlapping layers of chipping paint and rust!
Here’s what I came away with . . . I think you’ll agree – this is one of the more unusual sets of photos I’ve shared here on my blog.

Louisa Porter Grave, Laurel Grove Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia, Palladium Toned Kallitype © 2018 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a kallitype of the angel on Louisa Porter’s grave at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah to my website at https://beautifulflowerpictures.com/store/kallitypebunnyangel/ It is available matted to 11″X14″ for $ 49
One of a kind print, matted in a single white mat to 11″X14″
This photograph is printed using the late 19th-century photographing printing process known as Kallityping. The emulsion is hand-painted onto the paper, exposed with a negative under bright lights, and toned with palladium. Each print from a negative is slightly different – so these are one of a kind images.
The photographs are printed on 8 X 10″ Bergger 100% Cotton Cot 320 paper. They are matted to 11 X 14″ in a white acid-free mat.
