About Patty’s Approach to Photography

In an ever changing busy world, Patty Hankins finds peace and beauty in the natural world of the Middle Atlantic Region. Whether she is photographing sunrise in Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge or a wildflower in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Patty seeks to capture the quiet beauty of a passing moment to share this moment with you.

Each time she goes out with her camera, Patty experiences the joy of creating new images for you to enjoy. Many of the places she photographs are ones she first saw as a child on family vacations from the middle of the back seat of her parents’ car. In those days, photography was a way to record where she had been. Now she sees these same locations as places of beauty and inspiration.

Patty knows she has created a meaningful photograph, when you experience the same delight and wonder that she felt when she captured the image.

In 2002, after getting Master’s Degrees in Public Policy and History and working for several years as a grassroots activist, Patty acquired a new digital camera and rediscovered her love of photography. For Patty, the flexibility and freedom of digital photography means she can finally create the photographs she had always envisioned. Patty carefully edits and prints every photograph to ensure that each person who collects Patty’s art has an original piece that will last a lifetime.

Now, Patty wakes up in the morning looking forward to photographing more beautiful places and sharing her art with others.

About Bill’s Approach to Photography

Bill Lawrence is a fine art landscape and nature photographer whose style is one of environmental portraiture. Whether photographing the grand landscape of Death Valley or the monuments of Washington, DC, Bill likes to show the subject of his photography in the context of its environment. He creates photographs with sweeping expanses of sky and earth to accentuate the beauty of the scene. For Bill, the making of the image helps to bring a peaceful moment to a hectic world.

Bill began taking photographs as a child, when his parents first gave him his first Kodak Instamatic. He has used 35 mm and, more recently, digital cameras to capture natural scenes. However, it wasn’t until he stumbled across an old Graflex view camera on eBay that he found his true artistic love: large format photography. The challenges of a large-format camera require that the artist slow down to see more clearly and deeply into the interrelationships of all the elements in the scene. This contemplative mood, so necessary to working in this format, also communicates itself to the viewer.

But while Bill is adept at using a wide variety of cameras, from large format to digital, the technical aspects of his work serve to support the primary goal of achieving his artistic vision. Bill takes pride in his work , and uses the highest quality archival materials, so that he peaceful moment you see on the wall today will be enjoyed for years to come. His photographs will last a lifetime.
